Sick to my freaking stomach!

Friday 12 October 2007 - Filed under Mondays

Noodle’s guitar broke! No, we won’t play Rawhide, won’t play anything.

Oh man what a week. So yeah, I thought everything was back up when I wrote that last post.
I went and took a shower and when I came back everything was gone.

I feel like such a moron. The devastation of the Noodle Journal was something to behold.
I just wanted to change a few sentences in my meta data and everything went down the toilet.
I went in and started deleting things, writing over files.
Then I thought it would be good to get Adobe GoLive into the mix and had some funky FTP admin weirdness with that.
Then I thought It would be good to upgrade to the new version of WordPress. That required some effort. My journal database got deleted. I didn’t really have a functioning backup of anything!

It’s embarrassing. I have a degree in web design and multimedia don’t I?

OH MY GOSH!
Losing the journal for this week really bummed me out! It hit me hard. It was all I could think about.
I didn’t know how much it meant to me until my 6 years of posts appeared to be gone forever. K kept saying things like “Yeah, he lost his life’s work this week”. It sounds a tad silly but I guess it has been my life’s work. I don’t know. Seems a touch dramatic.

Thanks to the fine folks at Westhost for helping in my hours of need. I would put requests in to them and then kept checking my email for responses. I started to notice that their responses always came in the morning so I began springing up in the mornings to check my email.

There was quite a few solutions to my problems to be had on the internet when I was able to get the proper descriptions together. This Blog I found to be very helpful.

This brush with blogger death has given me a new religion. I’ve totally repented from my sins and plan on changing my life to become a better journaler.

One good thing about all of this is I actually have a better idea how my website is working.
No, really.

how interesting it would be today to leaf through
the notebooks of the high-school-aged jim morrison.
no doubt they would tell us much about his character.
but this opportunity has long passed. shortly after
he left college, morrison threw all his old notebooks away.
(coincidentlly, kafka’s early writings were also lost and never recovered.)
perhaps morrison wanted to discard any keys that could unlock
his past. or maybe it was just a whim.
he described those days in rolling stone: “i kept a lot
of notebooks through high school and college
and then when i left school, for some dumb reason – maybe
it was wise – i threw them all away. there’s
nothing i can think of i’d rather have in my possession
right now than those two or three lost notebooks.
i was thinking of being hypnotized or taking sodium
pentothal to try to remember, because i wrote in
those books night after night. but maybe if i’d never
thrown them away, i’d never have written anything
original. i think if i’d never gotten rid of them
i’d never be free.” phil collins admits that this
morrison quotation is what the 1986 genesis hit
“throwing it all away” is based upon.

    great words.

It’s good to be back kids.
    I’ll never leave you again.

I now have 5 different backups scattered throughout locations in 4 separate nations.

I’m also installing a panic room at the compound.

Has anyone else dl’d the new radiohead cd? I just did and it’s pretty good. You can get the whole thing for free if you want. They have a “pay whatever you feel like paying” thing set up. I felt like paying nothing….now I just feel bad. The music is good which makes me feel even worse.
